Fredrich Nietzsche

Fredrich Nietzsche
Fredrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher and critic of culture who challenged the principles of Christianity and traditional morality.  He was interested in enhancing human morality and believed strongly in life, creativity and power.  One of his most popular Thus Spoke Zarathustra (1883-1885) was full of the idea "eternal recurrence of the same". But he was most popular for his arguments about Christianity.
Nietzsche was confident that no Christian ever held true to Jesus's teachings, which caused to react both positively and negatively.  In his book, The Will to Power, he Fredrich argued,
"The Christians have never practiced the actions Jesus prescribed them; and the impudent garrulous talk about the "justification by faith" and its supreme and sole significance is only the consequence of the Church's lack of courage and will to profess the works Jesus demanded."

His views are a direct result of WWI in the sense that at this time everyone was questioning what is "right and wrong" in their lives.  But Nietzsche was the first to actually question God and religion, which made his views very controversial.
